Sharing a desk with someone is a lot less dramatic than sharing a room or a house with them. When you live with someone, you're exposed to all of their habits. All the secret things they do when they're home, you'll find out about. You'll know that they keep their peanut butter in the fridge and their ketchup in the pantry. You know that they never clean out the lint tray in the dryer and that they use dish soap to take off their makeup. You know that they clip their toenails in the living room, and they can't stand when you let a banana go brown.

These are all the weird little quirks you discover when you start living with someone. But on at least some level, you chose to live with this person. You have some stake in making it work. You don't usually choose your coworkers. So you hope that you're not forced into the same level of intimacy as you would with a roommate. This isn't always the case, though. Sometimes they will expose all of their habits to you, too.
